Current North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora
Fedora may seem like an odd pick but please hear the reasoning. The North Carolina Tar Heels have gone to a bowl game in each of Fedora’s five seasons excluding his first year that included a post-season NCAA ban. North Carolina is not a football school but Fedora has had the Tar Heels become competitive in the ACC and even finished in the top 25 in 2015.
His offensive playstyle is different than what most Michigan fans are used to but it isn’t anywhere near as much of a deviation as Rich Rodriguez was. Fedora also coaches at a school where football will never be the first priority. It would be very reasonable to assume he would jump at a chance to join a larger program than what he had. No overt ties could be found regarding any connection Fedora would have with the University of Michigan.
His hire wouldn’t be one that had a lot of ties to the school or confidence based around familiarity, but he has proven his worth at a school that has no right being competitive in football. It won’t set the football world on fire, but if Michigan decided to start fresh, Fedora should be high on the list.
