In case you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve no doubt heard the unfortunate news that the Detroit Red Wings won’t be selecting 1st overall in this year’s NHL Draft despite owning the dead-last record by a wide margin.
In fact, their luck got even worse during last week’s NHL Draft Lottery – they landed in fourth place, dropping yet again in the annual drawing for the third straight year.
And while there will be still plenty of options for the team to choose from, yet another NHL Mock Draft scenario has the Red Wings going with offensive help.
According to Bill Placzet of Draftsite.com, Saginaw Spirit LW Cole Perfetti‘s offensive skills can’t be overlooked, and plays all over the ice:
“Strong, skilled smaller center-wing who is always involved in the middle regions of all three zones, in the areas where the pucks frequent. When he steps on the sheet, he easily can be viewed as the smartest player out there, and one that can penetrate and puncture the opposition’s defense and get looks. He wants the puck and uses great balance and strong quads to beat defenders one-on-one, get pucks back and maintain a high pace at both ends. A high-end stick-handler and elite-level game-thinker, he keeps pucks close to his body in his carries and rarely over-handles, choosing instead to stop abruptly, shifts laterally and find a teammate.”
Both Bleacher Report and SportsNet have also both predicted Perfetti to land with Detroit.
