Drew Miller injured again, will have MRI

Detroit Red Wings forward Drew Miller had just returned to the lineup after missing 14 games with injury, and now it appears he could miss additional time.

Miller sustained what the Red Wings called a “lower-body injury” in the third period of Detroit’s 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks Sunday night. According to GM Ken Holland, Miller will have an MRI either in Los Angeles or in Phoenix, depending on availability.

Miller has proven to be a crucial element of Detroit’s penalty killing unit. This was made especially evident when their penalty killing percentage fell to 20th overall in the NHL without Miller in the lineup, as opposed to 7th overall with him.

If Detroit places Miller on injured reserve, it would free up $1.35 million in cap space.
