DSN writer manages basketball team for chance at $2 million

The inaugural version of “The Basketball Tournament” tipped off in the summer of 2014 with 32 teams slated to compete at Philadelphia University for a shot at $500,000. Myself and a few friends created a team, earned enough votes to be eligible to play and traveled out to Philadelphia for a game we would never forget.

We were matched up against former Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers guard Smush Parker, along with a slew of other overseas professionals. As was detailed in an article published on SI.com, it didn’t go so well.

In 2015, The Basketball Tournament raised the stakes. They upped the winner-take-all prize money to $1 million, expanded the field to 96 teams and announced the championship would be played on ESPN. Eberlein Drive (our team) returned in 2015 with a drastically improved roster, including former NBA players Von Wafer, Renaldo Balkmann and Jamaal Tinsley among others. We earned a sponsorship from Draftkings and seemed to be on the road to glory, only to once again fall flat, getting upset by the “Sconnie Legends” in the second round.

2016 came around, and The Basketball Tournament outdid itself once again, this time, raising the grand prize to $2 million with even more games slated to be on ESPN. Despite the field being littered with alumni teams and former professionals in year three, I’ve decided to bring Eberlein Drive back for one more shot at glory and the $2 million.

I bet you’re wondering, “how can I get in on this $2 million?” Good news, you can.

To become eligible for The Basketball Tournament, teams need to have people to sign up and vote for their team on their official team page. My team, Eberlein Drive, can be found here. While we haven’t announced our official roster yet, announcements are coming soon with even bigger names than last year, as crazy as that sounds.

But back to how you can get in on the $2 million. Simple, The Basketball Tournament rewards those fans who vote for teams by givings fans of the winning team $200,000 of the $2 million grand prize, as detailed below.

So, if you want a chance at $2 million, enjoy rooting for the hometown underdog, and can spare two minutes, head over to the Eberlein Drive team page and vote for our locally based team at this link.

It’s only three steps. Click vote, sign up, and confirm your email (so they can contact you if you win money!). Thanks to all who decide to support. None of this would be possible without you.
