DSN’s countdown of the top celebrity Detroit Red Wings fans: No. 4

As one of the most popular and well known NHL franchises, it isn’t any surprise that the Detroit Red Wings have fans from every corner of the globe. And naturally, some of those fans are going to be celebrities.

Let’s take a look at some of the well known figures in entertainment who are also known for their love of the Winged Wheel!

No. 6: Actress Kristen Bell

The Huntington Woods, Mich. native first rose to fame as the eponymous character of the teen noir drama series Veronica Mars (2004-07), and also had roles in Heroes and Gossip Girl. She’s also won a Golden Globe for Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for her role in The Good Place. Her numerous film credits include Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Couples Retreat, as well as lending her voice talents in Disney’s Frozen and Frozen II.

But before all that? She was a fan of the Detroit Red Wings – and even envisioned a future as the spouse of a certain goaltender known as “Ozzie.

“My high school career, nobody cared about Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise,” Bell, 36, said. “As a young girl, I had posters of Darren McCarty and Chris Osgood and all those guys on my wall.”

“They were all gods to me. I wore a tag on my shirt in high school that said ‘Mrs. Osgood.’ So, I was like really trying to live the secret and put it out there so, I was like 16 and like, ‘Maybe if I just wear it on my heart, he will know we’re meant to be together.’ ”

However, she would eventually marry actor Dax Shepard, a Michigan native whom she met at a Los Angeles Kings hockey game.

“I wouldn’t have my husband (if not for the Red Wings), wouldn’t have my kids,” Bell said. “Everything comes from the Red Wings. I owe them a lot.”
