Dylan Larkin disappointed as Red Wings lose lead twice vs. Kraken on Tuesday night
On Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena, the Detroit Red Wings experienced a rollercoaster of a game. They initially held the lead, then lost it, managed to regain it, but ultimately succumbed to a 5-4 defeat in overtime against the Seattle Kraken. For Dylan Larkin, who continued his impressive start to the season with a goal and two assists, it was a disappointing end to their winning streak.
Larkin felt Detroit should have secured both points
Larkin, who scored a power play goal in the third period to knot the score at 3-3, it was disappointing to then take the lead only to lose it late in regulation.
“I think we are disappointed with losing like that,” Larkin said. “Great to come back from down, 3-1, but we had two points in our hand and we let them slip. Say what you want, it's a minute left and I put my stick in a guy's midsection and gave the ref an opportunity to call it. We took two penalties with four minutes left and they capitalized.
“We get a point, but we feel we should have had two.”
Despite the loss, the Red Wings still hold the 2nd best record in the Atlantic Division behind only the Boston Bruins, who have yet to lose in regulation through six games.
Detroit's power play continues to produce at an impressive rate
Meanwhile, the good news is that Detroit's power play kept chugging along, scoring three times while the Kraken were shorthanded, including a rocket of a shot from defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere.
“We have a weapon at all positions,” said Gostisbehere of the power play. “Mo (Seider) gives subtle fakes which gives us time to do what we need to do and it's called a power play for a reason. There's only four of them and five of us and they have to cover and someone will be open. We have a weapon on every spot.”
