Eaves out, Wings to recall a Griff?

For all you Red Wings fans that were hoping that by this Saturday we’d get to see what a completely healthy Red Wings forward group looks like…not so fast! Patrick Eaves suffered a leg injury last night when he was delivering a check to a Sharks player and their knees collided.

Eaves had an MRI on the knee today, and has been ruled out for Thursdays game against Dallas. So far, that’s the extent of what we know about his injury. I’d assume that with Modano and Filppula both expected back by Saturday and the Wings comfortably entrenched in a playoff spot, that Eaves will not be rushed back and will find himself as one of the scratches for the next little while until his knee is 100% back to normal.

Detroit Red Wings Free Agency Review

Valtteri Filppula was shooting for tomorrow’s game as his return date,  but he has ruled himself out until Saturday to give his knee a little more time to heal.

Ansar Khan of MLive reports that the Wings will be recalling a forward from Grand Rapids, although whom that forward will be is not yet known.

My guess would be Jan Mursak, since he was the first called up when the Wings started running into injury troubles, and did nothing in his time up here to be bumped from that spot. However, if his sore toes are still bothering him after taking a Shea Weber blast to the foot in his last NHL game, it could be someone else.

The Wings might recall Tomas Tatar, who played well on a line with Draper and Helm, or Cory Emmerton who didn’t look out of place with Abdelkader and Miller.

The Detroit Lions have found their No. 2 tight end

Or maybe Filppula suits up for the Wings, after all. Ilari, not Valtteri. The Wings signed Val’s older brother this off-season to a one year, league minimum contract and all he has done is lead the Griffins in points. Maybe it’s his turn to get a look.

Based on comments Mike Babcock has made to the media, and the lines the Wings have been playing with lately, this is how I see the lines shaking out over the next couple of games, first without Fil and Mo, then with them in the lineup. Also, I’m assuming the top two lines won’t be changing.

What do you think the lines should be once Modano and Filppula return? Who do you think the Wings should call up from GR to fill in tomorrow and potentially Saturday if Eaves and Filppula can’t go?
