EDITORIAL: Memo To Miggy – A Little Less Talk, A Little More Action Please

It’s no secret the Detroit Tigers will be sellers at the Major League Baseball trade deadline. This is sad news for Detroit fans who are witnessing the end of an era. I mean, let’s face it, we are watching the end of a roster potentially getting dismantled that for years featured Justin Verlander and Triple Crown Winner, Miguel Cabrera. All that talent and no World Series titles to speak of. Frustration abounds from the dugout to the front office to the spectator seats of Comerica Park.

While the trading of superstars is hard on everyone, MLive reported an interview with Cabrera recently and he had this to say about all the trade discussion:

“If they’re going to trade me, trade me. If they’re going to trade this guy, trade this guy. But I don’t like to come here everyday and hear, ‘Are these guys going to get traded?’ Do something. That’s it.

“We’re humans, man. We think. We feel. We feel everything. It’s hard when you hear that everyday.”

Ok. Let’s just calm down and take a step back. I have a huge problem with that.

BRO.

You have a (seriously, look it up) 248 MILLION DOLLAR GUARANTEED CONTRACT.

Sorry, Miggy. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. No more complaining until you produce. The fact is, you need to clean up your own house before you start complaining about management or the everyday business of baseball otherwise known as trade talk.

Spare me the theatrics and the sob story.

Here are Miggy’s current stats for 2017: .265 BA, 11 HR, 41 RBI.

News flash, Miguel: You are having your worst statistical season since your rookie year. You haven’t batted lower than .292 since you’ve been in Detroit. Sorry if I don’t buy into the sob story from a guy who is crying about being mistreated by all the ‘trade talk’ all the way to the bank.

Besides, this is so tiresome from a player whose demeanor on the field could be lightly described as nonchalant.

Here’s the deal. Not only do trade deadline deals take place every year, they are talked about every year. This is a normal part of the business. Being frustrated by that is like being upset that water is wet or the sky is blue.

I’m as big of a fan of Miguel Cabrera as anyone else. But, his complaints would be worth much more if he was pulling his normal weight this season. The reality is, he’s not…and neither is most of the Tigers roster. Please withhold your “woe is me” comments until you’re doing everything that’s expected of you to help this team win.

It’s miggy lay off of the guy he will produce because of who he is. The first time this guys numbers are down and you guys are the first ones to slam him. What are we in New York? Lay off let him go !! If he goes some where Else, it will be detroits fault and he will go on to be one of the greats, no matter what he says so dude shut the F up!!!
