It certainly was an unusual situation in June, as the Detroit Tigers placed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez on their restricted list saying that he was dealing with a “personal matter” and wouldn’t be rejoining the team any time soon. The team also released a statement to that effect:
“Eduardo Rodríguez has informed the Club that due to personal matters he will not rejoin the team at this time. As a result, Eduardo has been placed on the restricted list until further notice.”
It wasn’t long afterward that now-former Tigers GM Al Avila said that Rodriguez wasn’t in communication with the team despite their best efforts to contact him. However, the two sides have patched things up, and the pitcher has made a handful of rehabilitation starts. His outing last night for the Triple-A affiliate Toledo Mud Hens was a gem, striking out 11 opposition batters in six innings of work while allowing only a single earned run.

Eduardo Rodriguez is returning to the Tigers
And it won’t be long before he’s back on the mound with the big club. According to Tigers beat writer Evan Petzold, Eduardo Rodriguez will be getting the start for Detroit on Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Angeles at Comerica Park.
Eduardo Rodriguez will start Sunday for the #Tigers. He has been on the restricted list since June 13. https://t.co/3GbiStF8ZJ

Rodriguez is in the first season of a hefty five-year, $77 million contract that he signed with the Tigers this past winter. He’s put together a pedestrian 1-3 record so far with a 4.38 ERA, 34 strikeouts, and a 1.33 WHIP. And fans are certainly hoping that the team will start seeing a return on that lengthy investment.
