Eric Comrie earns first start for Detroit Red Wings against his former Winnipeg Jets teammates

Detroit Red Wings fans will get their first full look at goaltender Eric Comrie when the team visits the Winnipeg Jets for the first of a home-and-home series starting tonight at 8:00 PM EST.

Comrie will start for the first time since being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes organization in late November by GM Steve Yzerman in exchange for defenseman Vili Saarijarvi. It will be Comrie’s second appearance with the team after spelling Jonathan Bernier during the third period of Saturday night’s 5-3 loss at home to Pittsburgh; Comrie stopped all four shots he faced.

“I loved every single second I was in Winnipeg,” Comrie said after this morning’s practice. “I was really happy to be here, every single day I spent here was unbelievable……if anything ever comes back, I’d be happy to go back here but I’m really happy in Detroit right now.”

Originally drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft, Comrie appeared in five total games with the team, winning twice with a 4.21 goals-against average. This season, he was undefeated in four appearances with the Tucson Roadrunners, the AHL affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes.
