The Detroit Lions made things official, agreeing to a six-year contract with Dan Campbell as their new head coach.
Campbell had been with the New Orleans Saints the past five years and had previously coached with the Miami Dolphins.
And while the hiring has garnered mostly good reviews so far, not everyone is completely impressed.
Both Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano of ESPN put together their reviews of each new NFL head coach, and while they didn’t pan Detroit’s decision to hire Campbell, they didn’t exactly jump up and down over it either. In their words, Campbell wasn’t the “sexiest” hire, but was “sensible”:
“The Lions needed to go left from the Patriots way, and I kept hearing through the process that they wanted a high-energy coach. Campbell appears to be a walking espresso,” Fowler wrote.
Overall, their grading of the hire was a solid “B”. Not exactly running to show your parents your report card, but not hiding it under the bed, either.
