ESPN’s Jay Bilas puts Michigan on upset alert vs. LSU

The Michigan Wolverines and LSU Tigers will clash tonight in Indianapolis for the right to earn a berth in the Sweet 16.

This will be the fourth matchup between the two sides, with LSU having emerged victorious in the most recent matchup in November of 2017. The Tigers are coming off a 76-61 victory over St. Bonaventur, and are featuring an impressive 82.1 PPG. Meanwhile, Michigan moved to the second round with a 82-62 victory against Texas Southern.

And while LSU is feeling confident ahead of tonight’s matchup, the Wolverines just got some additional bulletin board material.

ESPN’s Jay Bilas put the Wolverines on upset alert, stating that while they’re the better team, LSU has the talent to be able to end their season.

“Ohio can beat Creighton and I think Abilene Christian because they can force turnovers and makes things difficult defensively, they can beat UCLA, but the real big shots — the Illinois going down kind of upset — I would look at Michigan,” Bilas said during Monday’s appearance on Get Up. “Michigan is the better team and I think they should beat LSU, but LSU is crazy talented. Early on in the season, LSU didn’t guard anybody. They couldn’t guard the bank with a machine gun. But the last month, they’ve actually been staying in front of people and being prideful on the defensive end.

“They’ve got legit talent. Cam Thomas is a freshman and averaged about 22 or 23 points per game. He’s very difficult to deal with. He’s going to be a first-round draft pick and play in the NBA for a long time. He’s got a beautiful jumpsuit. Trendon Watford is dual-threat, he can rebound and score. And Javonte Smart is one of the best point guards in the country and has size. They’ve got the talent to beat Michigan, I just think Michigan is the better team.”

Who do you believe will ultimately come out on top tonight? The two teams will tip-off at 7:10 PM on CBs from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
