Event Preview: Total Warrior Combat

If there has ever been a mixed martial arts event that you’ve wanted to be in attendance for, this is the one.

Total Warrior Combat, a mixed marital arts promotion company based out of Lansing, Michigan, made it’s triumphant return to the Michigan MMA scene a couple months ago. As is always the case, they’re not pulling any punches when it comes to their next event.

Tomorrow, March 9th, the Causeway Bay Hotel in Lansing will showcase yet another tremendous card for TWC, in their pro-am event. Some of the biggest mixed martial artists from the state of Michigan are scheduled to participate on the card, such as Dequan Townsend, Khaos Williams, and Devin Smith. Although the names on the card are impressive, it isn’t always easy finding matches for high profile fighters, especially in the state of Michigan.

“We’re definitely lucky to have Sheena (Starr) as our matchmaker,” said Pete Keung, owner of TWC. “She deserves all the credit for these cards. Michigan mixed martial arts has always produced great fighters, and will continue to do so.”

Detroit Sports Nation will be represented by our very own Shae Brophy, who is doing play by play commentary for the event.

The doors will open at 5pm on Saturday, with the first amateur fight scheduled to start at 6pm. Tickets will be available at the door. General admission tickets are $30, VIP tickets are $75, and tables are $600 (six people can sit at a table).

Due to an unexpected circumstance, the main event for the evening has been changed. UFC  veteran Jarred Brooks and Josh Robinson were scheduled to face off for the 125 pound championship, but the fight has been cancelled.

Now the main event of the evening, Lansing’s own Dequan Townsend puts his 20-8 professional record on the line against Kansas’s Wayman Carter for the 195 pound TWC championship. Dequan is the top light heavyweight in the entire mid-west according to Tapology, and will face a stiff challenge in Carter.

Here a look at the entire fight card:

  1. Xavier Smith vs Algenard Cowart 155 pounds
