Everson Griffen slams former teammate Kirk Cousins in series of deleted tweets

Detroit Lions defensive end Everson Griffen didn’t exactly hide his desire regarding a potential reunion with the team he starred with for several years, who just happen to be one of Detroit’s chief rivals in the Minnesota Vikings.

Griffen openly stated for the Vikings to “come get it” with regard to his services, and also re-tweeted several messages from Minnesota fans hoping for him to come back to the team.

However, Vikings management may be weary about bringing Griffen back to the Twin Cities after he slammed Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins on his social media account earlier today.

Not only did Griffen refer to Cousins as “a**” while tagging the Vikings in his tweet, but also implied that Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer didn’t want Cousins on the team.

This is quite the contrast from what Griffen had to say when Cousins arrived in Minnesota in 2018:

“Kirk… he’s a real-life leader. He’s out there, he’s a vocal leader, he’s an excellent football player, he’s smart, and he knows the playbook, I feel like, after day one,” Griffen told NFL Network. “He’s studying. He’s a competitor. He does all the right things. He can make all the big throws, the long balls, and I feel like having him plugged in and having a quarterback that we know is going to be there for the next three years, it’s major for us.

“I’m excited to have him and I know the team is and the organization is, too.”

Griffen later deleted his comments on Twitter and issued an apology:

After arriving in Detroit via trade with Dallas, Griffen compiled 33 tackles, six sacks, and 14 quarterback hits. His five quarterback hits against Washington in November matched a team record.
