Ex-Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy out as New Orleans Pelicans coach after 1 season

The return of former Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy to the NBA didn't last very long.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Van Gundy has been let go by the New Orleans Pelicans after one season on the job:

This comes on the heels of a disappointing 31-41 campaign for New Orleans. Van Gundy was signed to a four-year deal last offseason after the Pelicans parted ways with coach Alvin Gentry.

And according to his players earlier in the season, his coaching style was noticeable different than what they were accustomed to.

“It was definitely different,” Josh Hart said. “It wasn’t the easiest transition.”

“It’s OK. This is our first year together,” said All-Star forward Brandon Ingram. “He has a different coaching style that I’m used to seeing from most. But I was able to learn a lot of things from him this year and learn what he’s all about.”

Van Gundy has a career coaching record of 554-425 (.566).
