We all can recite the best lines from the 1980 comedy Airplaine!. Of course, one memorable scene sees an elderly woman turning down whiskey in lieu of a few lines of cocaine.
According to a Czech newspaper, former Detroit Red Wings forward and current free-agent Jiri Hudler tried to re-live that scene, but with a little more belligerence and less “talking jive”. The Delta Airlines flight staff on board the plane Hudler was traveling upon alleges that he requested “coke” from the flight attendant. Naturally, she thought he meant Coca-Cola. But Hudler was after the….well, other kind.
Of course, airlines don’t serve the dangerous narcotic along with the usual peanuts and soda.
Hudler didn’t like being turned down on his odd request, and then is alleged to have threatened the flight attendant, telling her he’d have his friends kill her once the plane landed in Prague. He then reportedly headed to the bathroom, came out with white powder on his lips and then finally attempted to urinate in a food cart.
One passenger on the plane alleges that Hudler appeared to be under the influence at the time the incident took place.
Gee, you think?
To nobody’s surprise, Hudler is denying the incident. However, that hasn’t stopped the police from launching an investigation.
In 708 career games with the Red Wings, Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers, and Dallas Stars, Hudler has scored 164 goals to go with 264 assists. He was a member of the Red Wings 2008 Stanley Cup championship team, and was also awarded the Lady Byng Trophy in 2015 for gentlemanly conduct on the ice.
Hudler apparently needs a lesson on gentlemanly conduct while on board a flight.
