The Detroit Lions’ rebuild hasn’t just elevated the team on the field; it’s also turning heads across the NFL when it comes to front-office leadership.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Atlanta Falcons have officially requested to interview Detroit Lions Chief Operating Officer Mike Disner for their newly created President of Football Operations position.

Disner has been a key figure in Detroit’s resurgence, working closely with general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell throughout the Lions’ turnaround. Now, one of the league’s most sought-after restructuring jobs may be calling his name.
The Falcons are undergoing a sweeping organizational reset, and owner Arthur M. Blank announced that the incoming president will play a central, top-down leadership role in shaping the franchise moving forward.
In a statement, Blank explained:
“We will be adding a new president of football from outside the organization. The leader in this new role will set the vision and identity for our team. Our new head coach and general manager will report to the new president of football, and they will work collaboratively as a football leadership team on all football decisions. Final decision-making authority will rest with the president of football.”
Blank added that the new hire will also work hand-in-hand with business leadership to ensure alignment across the organization:
“This leader will also work in collaboration with the club’s president and CEO to ensure the team’s football and business operations are appropriately aligned with unified organizational goals… We plan to move quickly on this hire so the new president of football can be fully involved in the selection of our new leaders in the head coach and general manager roles.”
For Detroit, this marks yet another sign that other franchises are taking notice of the Lions’ blueprint, and the people behind it. Whether Disner remains in Motown or takes on a new challenge in Atlanta, his growing reputation underscores just how far the Lions’ organization has come.
