The Detroit Red Wings and their fans suffered through the worst season in over three decades in 2019-20, amassing only 39 points prior to the COVID-19 pandemic forced the shutdown of the season on March 12.
The hope all year was that Detroit would at least be able to reap the benefits of the top overall draft selection, which will almost certainly be used to draft QMJHL forward Alexis Lafreniere.
And now we know that Detroit will not have a chance to draft him, or even in the Top 3.
The NHL Draft Lottery didn't look favorably upon the Red Wings, who landed with the 4th overall draft selection.
Needless to say, fans and media were swift with their less-than-stellar reactions.
