On Sunday, the Detroit Lions jumped out to an early 14-0 lead over the New Orleans Saints, only to see that lead evaporate quickly as the Saints put up 35-straight points and cruised to a victory.
After the conclusion of the game, Lions head coach Matt Patricia spoke to the media during his postgame press conference and he made a comment that has ruffled some feathers, not only amongst the fans but also in the national media.
“That’s a hard question,” Patricia said, “We just lost to the Saints. Let’s just give them credit for this game, they played extremely well and I know we got a lot of work to do. I think when I came to Detroit, there was a lot of work to do and that’s what we’re trying to do. But, talking about this year, we’re talking about right now, these first four games and obviously today wasn’t good enough.”
On Monday, a fired-up Dan Orlovsky joined the Key, Jay & Z Show and he and Keyshawn Johnson exposed Patricia for his ignorant comments following the game.
Orlovsky called the comments, “trash” and both he and Johnson called out Patricia for always wanting to point fingers at everyone else when something goes wrong.
To come in a say you had a lot of work to do is completely false. It’s a bunch of trash. Because that wasn’t the case in Detroit. We were a good football team. Matthew Stafford was playing as good as he has in his career. That was because of Coach Caldwell. And we were an organization that was ascending, we were building.”
“The culture was amazing. The culture was fantastic. So, you had a winning record in three of your four years. The culture was great and your quarterback was playing really good football.
“So for (Patricia) to say there was a lot of work to be done is a bunch of trash.”
