Five NHL coaches have been fired since the Detroit Red Wings last won a game

As if fans of the Detroit Red Wings needed anything else to add to their misery, this might just be the icing on the cake of despair that has been the 2019-20 season so far.

The San Jose Sharks fired head coach Peter DeBoer last night, which means that five – count them – FIVE NHL coaches have been fired since the Red Wings last won a game, which was on November 12 in Anaheim. Meanwhile, head coach Jeff Blashill remains behind the Red Wings bench, despite having lost 12 games in a row and being by-far the worst team in the NHL.

Now, according to to the Sharks, DeBoer’s firing was a purely hockey decision. Other coaches haven’t been as lucky.

The Dallas Stars fired coach Jim Montgomery despite a winning record due to unprofessional behavior, while Calgary Flames coach Bill Peters was let go after reports of past racially insensitive remarks came to light.

Other fired coaches include Toronto’s Mike Babcock and New Jersey’s John Hynes.
