This free agent season has been a rather quiet one for our Detroit Lions.
Besides the presumable “move of the off-season” to acquire perennial Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata from the Baltimore Ravens, the Lions front office has had a small-time presence in big-name player acquisition this off-season.
While impact player after impact player falls off the free agency big board day by day, there is still value to be found. These are not your retro Detroit Lions coming off a 3-13 season and serving as a place for worthless veterans to come die. These Lions are coming off an 11-5 season and find themselves composed of one of the best collections of talent on both sides of the ball in the league. Free agent veterans that can still help should see the Lions as a team with which they could possibly contend for a Super Bowl.
General manager Martin Mayhew, as secretive and quiet as he may be, should be taking an aggressive and offensive front towards obtaining impact veteran players that can help the Lions enter a winning window that is so unmistakably open.
