On August 2, 2015, Daniel Norris made the most of his first start as a member of the Detroit Tigers, going 7.1 innings and giving up only four hits and one run as the Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles that day, 6-1.
In the bottom of the second inning, Norris made a “superman-like” play that shows his grit and determination on the field.
Norris has shown plenty of flashes with the club since being acquired from Toronto in July of 2015. However, his development has been complicated some due to injuries and erratic outings at times.
The young southpaw turned in a solid 3.48 through his first 22 games (21 starts) with Detroit in 2015-16. Unfortunately, he took a step back in 2017. But patience remains the most important thing for the Tigers and their fans, because of outings like his team debut against Baltimore in 2015.
Section 313, Seat No 15: Grading the 2017 Detroit Tigers
Ok, yes I know and can hear you now, “give them all F’s.” But, I cannot do that. Are there some “failures”? Sure, there absolutely are. But is the entire team considered a failure? No. Grades, in an educational sense, are meant to show mastery of a particular subject. Therefore, we will be taking grades from the position groups and averaging them together for the position groups total.
What are we doing with the players we traded away? We’ll include them, as they contributed to the effort. However, September call-ups, like Jeimer Candelario, will not be included.
