It was a year ago today that Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall announced his retirement from the NHL after 17 years – all spent wearing the Winged Wheel.
During his career, he became known for being able to dish out some pretty serious body checks, perhaps none more well known than his absolute destruction of Chicago Blackhawks forward Martin Havlat during the 2009 Western Conference Finals.
Let’s take a look at one of his patented checks three years later during a regular season matchup at Joe Louis Arena against the Philadelphia Flyers. Forward Danny Briere had his head down as he crossed into the neutral zone – a big no-no with #55 on the ice.
Gotta keep your head up!
