Flashback: Hundreds of stolen wallets discovered after Super Bowl XVI at Pontiac Silverdome

Super Bowl XVI was played on January 24, 1982 at the Pontiac Silverdome, marking the first time that the biggest sporting event in the world came to the Motor City.

The San Francisco 49ers defeated Cincinnati Bengals 26-21, but it is what security personnel at the Silverdome found afterwards that had everybody talking.

Hundreds of wallets were discovered in bathrooms and under seats, and were believed to be the work of pick-pocket thieves who would dump the wallet after grabbing the contents.

As much as $2,000 in cash and hundreds of credit cards were believed to have been stolen.
