FLASHBACK: J.D. Martinez launches 100th career homer

When the Detroit Tigers claimed J.D. Martinez in 2014 after the Houston Astros released him, they did not know that they would be getting another big bat to plug into their lineup on a daily basis. After tearing up the minors, Martinez found his way to Detroit where he would go on to launch 23 home runs in just 123 games.

After never hitting more than 11 home runs in a season, Martinez all of a sudden found the power and followed up his great 2014 with an incredible 38 home run performance in 2015. Despite missing significant time with a fractured elbow this season, he has picked up right where he left off prior to getting hurt. On Sunday afternoon, Martinez launched his 100th career home run, this time a no doubter to the left field seats.

In his nearly three seasons with the Tigers, Martinez has already hit 76 home runs in 356 games. Martinez is currently signed through the 2017 season, though the Tigers would like to eventually sign him to a long-term deal.
