Flashback: Marc Staal wrecks Kyle Wellwood with massive body check (VIDEO)

Marc Staal can dish out the heavy hits.

The Detroit Red Wings traded for veteran defenseman Marc Staal from the New York Rangers earlier today, along with a second round draft pick in exchange for future considerations.

The 33 year old veteran of Thunder Bay, Ontario comes to Detroit having played 892 regular season games with the Rangers.

At 6’4 and 214 lbs, Staal knows how to dish out the heavy hits. Let’s throw it back to when San Jose Sharks forward Kyle Wellwood found that out the hard way:
