And he sure made the most of Detroit's home opener at Joe Louis Arena against the Los Angeles Kings. After taking a behind the back pass from Ray Whitney in the right face-off circle, Yzerman snapped a shot past a stunned Roman Cechmanek with 1.7 seconds remaining in regulation, giving Detroit the 3-2 victory:
