Forget Jalen Ramsey, should the Detroit Lions target a different superstar defender?

Despite having what looked to be one of the most difficult early-season schedules in the NFL, the Detroit Lions are currently off to a 2-1-1 start which puts them in second place in the NFC North.

Though the Lions have put themselves in decent position (if the playoffs started today, they would be in), there is still plenty of work to be done if they want to make a run at an NFC North Crown, and potentially more.

That being said, if the Lions want to reach their goals (making the playoffs), some believe they will have to improve their overall roster.

In order to make the biggest roster improvement at this time of the year, the Lions would have to make a trade for a difference-maker.

If you have been following the national/local media and blogs (including us), you have surely read and heard “experts” who believe the Lions should trade for Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey but now a different superstar defender has come up as a potential trade target for the Lions.

That player is DE Von Miller of the Denver Broncos.

Multiple outlets have suggested that Miller could become available for trade if the Broncos continue to struggle and that the Detroit Lions should pounce on the opportunity.

In my opinion, Lions GM Bob Quinn should not touch Miller with a 10-foot pole.

First of all, the cost to land Miller, who is 30, would likely be at least one first-round pick and probably more. Even though the Lions have plenty of draft capital over the next couple of seasons, giving up high picks for aging players is a big mistake.

Second, Miller makes the big bucks. In fact, he is slated to make well over $20 million in both 2020 and 2021 and that would cripple the Lions financially moving forward, especially if they plan on extending Darius Slay.

So, to answer the question in the title to this article…

NO, the Detroit Lions should NOT target Von Miller. Not only would he cost too much in draft capital but he would also mortgage the Lions’ future financially.
