In what has been a whirlwind beginning to free agency, the Detroit Lions have made their fair share of moves, and have also chosen to allow other players to walk — most notably former first-round pick, Eric Ebron. According to Pro Football Rumors, another player the Lions didn’t re-sign is linebacker Tahir Whitehead.

Whitehead is rumored to be signing with the Oakland Raiders and taking his talents to the west coast. Whitehead was a fifth-round draft pick (138th overall) of the Detroit Lions in 2012 out of Temple University.

He appeared in 93 games in the Honolulu Blue, starting 55 games in Detroit. As an outside backer, Whitehead collected 290 tackles in those games, four interceptions, and five fumble recoveries.

Having just signed Devon Kennard, the writing was on the wall for Whitehead. The moves will continue to flood in, most of them coming in the backfield it seems. One thing seems sure, general manager Bob Quinn seems to have a plan that he’s sticking to.

BREAKING: Detroit Lions re-sign safety to two year deal

The Lions have opted to keep another of their own free agents, signing safety Tavon Wilson to a two-year pact.

As reported by Ian Rapoport, Wilson can earn up to $8 million under his new pact.

After suffering a shoulder injury during training camp last year, and re-aggravating the injury twice throughout the season, Wilson was still able to finish the season with 42 tackles, two sacks, and an interception in 10 games. He finished the year on injured reserve after the final blow to his season was dealt on Thanksgiving.
