On Saturday, Detroit Tigers GM Al Avila shocked us all by announcing that manager Ron Gardenhire is retiring from baseball, effective immediately.

Following the press conference, the Tigers released a statement from Gardenhire in which he thanks the Tigers and Minnesota Twins for giving him the opportunity to manage. He also noted that he will be following this Tigers team closely as “there is a lot of talent” and “exciting times are on the horizon.”
