Seattle Seahawks rookie defensive end Malik McDowell has yet to make his debut this season, after suffer injuries sustained in an ATV accident during this past summer. The second-round pick out of Michigan State was the Seahawks’ top draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

McDowell found himself in the news on Sunday for events that occurred at an Atlanta night club early Sunday morning, events that led to his eventual arrest.

According to an incident report obtained by USA Today:

At around 2:21 a.m. Sunday, McDowell got into a verbal altercation with an employee in front of SL Lounge in Chamblee, Ga., according to the report filed by the Chamblee Police Department. McDowell claimed that he paid $600 for two bottles of alcohol, a seat in a particular section of the club and parking. Club employees, and one of McDowell’s friends, told him that he had not paid yet.

McDowell was allowed to re-enter the club following a warning by police, then removed again after he poured the bottles of Patron and Dusse employees delivered to him inside a bucket of ice.

According to one of the officers who was tasked with handling the situation, McDowell was forced to exit the night club multiple times and found himself verbally jousting at the officers, to which McDowell eventually “threw himself down on the ground in a tantrum.” That same officer claimed to have tried reasoning with him “but to no avail.”

The former 5-star prep prospect from Detroit foregone his senior season at Michigan State after the Spartans finished 3-9. Heading into the 2016 season, some believed that McDowell could have been a No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft this past spring. However, a number of things (injuries, inconsistent play, poor supporting cast, character issues) to some capacity contributed to dip in draft stock.

Unfortunately, due to the preseason ATV accident that has kept him on the non-football injury list all season long, McDowell has been unable to see the field. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll doesn’t expect his rookie and top draft pick to play because there is “not any progress being made” regarding his health.
