It was a season of transition in the Motor City, as new GM Troy Weaver completely transformed the look of the Detroit Pistons. Only 2019 draft pick Sekou Doumbouya remains from the roster that was intact prior to Weaver’s arrival.
However, several young players burst onto the scene, including the likes of Isaiah Stewart and Saddiq Bey, as well as the emergence of Jerami Grant.
For one of the greatest players in franchise history, Weaver excelled in his first year.
“I think he’s done a hell of a job for it to be his first year,” explained Ben Wallace, who won Defensive Player of the Year four times during his Pistons tenure. “I think the team is in a much better place, heading in the right direction.”
Wallace also praised the “hustle” and “energy” the team displayed in their first year under Weaver.
