Former Michigan State basketball star, and all-around good guy, Adreian Payne has been traded from the Atlanta Hawks to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a future first-round draft pick. Though this is not exactly breaking news, it is worth mentioning, as Payne was loved across the state of Michigan, regardless of what team you were a fan of.

Payne, who was selected 15th overall in the 2014 draft, was never really given a chance to succeed in Atlanta. In fact, he had only played in a total of 3 games this season for the Hawks. Maybe this move is exactly what Payne needs to get on the court for more than the 6 minutes or so that he was getting in Atlanta. Either that or he will sit on the bench next to fellow rookie and former University of Michigan standout, Glenn Robinson.
Ironically, the first fundraiser for Lacey’s Legacy, a non-profit fund in honor of Lacy Holsworth, was reported on the same day as the Payne trade. Holsworth of course, was the 8-year old girl who captured the hearts of Spartan fans and fans across the country, before passing away on April 8th, 2014. Throughout the process, Payne grew very close to Holsworth as he visited her and communicated with her on a regular basis.
Adreian Payne is a class act, on and off the court, and I wish nothing but the best for him. He has really come a long way in his life and he continues to be an inspiration to everyone.
