Detroit Tigers fans can look at this one of two ways. The first is we can be upset that the franchise couldn’t capitalize on having great talent by winning a World Series. The second way is that we can root for our former fan-favorite players as they pursue a World Series Championship in another city. Let’s take the second approach.
Former Tigers David Price, Ian Kinsler, Rick Porcello, and J.D. Martinez have the Boston Red Sox up 2-0 in this year’s World Series. Last night, David Price pitched a gem, and Kinsler and Martinez combined to drive in 3 of 4 Red Sox wins as Boston pulled off a 4-2 Game 2 victory. The Series now heads back to LA with the Los Angeles Dodgers down 0-2.

Price, who pitched for the Tigers for parts of the 2014 and 2015 seasons, threw a solid six innings while giving up only two earned runs, and striking out six. His outing kept the Red Sox in the game. Ian Kinsler contributed with a 2nd inning RBI single. J.D. Martinez, a fan-favorite here in Detroit, capped the scoring with a 5th inning two-run single. The Red Sox bullpen did the rest.
No matter how you feel about these players now playing for another franchise and leading them toward a World Series crown, they are on their way. If the Red Sox can hold on and win, it would be two years in a row former Tigers earned their rings in a different city. Justin Verlander had to go to Houston to win his last year.
As a long-time Tigers’ fan, I say go, Red Sox!
