The Detroit Lions have made yet another front office move; hiring former UCONN and Maryland head coach Randy Edsall. Edsall will be serving as Lion’s Director of Football Research.
The hire comes after an already busy January for new GM Bob Quinn. Before hiring Edsall, Quinn had hired on Kevin Anderson as his chief of staff, New York Giants staffer Matt Harriss, and Jacksonville Jaguars‘ director of college scouting Kyle O’Brien. Quinn now adds Edsall; who had success at non-traditional football schools at UCONN and Maryland, to bolster an ever-growing staff hand cultivated by Quinn.
In his 17 years at both universities, Edsall had gone to seven bowl appearances including a BCS berth for the Huskies back in 2010. Edsall’s program has also produced many NFL-talent players including Tyvon Branch, Donald Brown, Darius Butler, Stefon Diggs, Torrey Smith, and Detroit Lions back-up Dan Orlovsky.
