Four-goal 3rd period dooms Red Wings against Devils

The Red Wings were hoping for heaven on Saturday night in New Jersey, but instead got the third period from hell.

Four goals by the Devils in the final frame sunk the Red Wings, who lost for the third straight game in regulation following five straight with at least a point.

Taro Hirose scored his second of the year for Detroit, who got 29 saves from Jonathan Bernier. Forward Anthony Mantha was injured and did not return.

Will Butcher scored the go-ahead goal in the third period; Blake Coleman (two goals), Kyle Palmieri and Taylor Hall also scored for the Devils, who got 19 saves from goalie Louis Domingue in his Devils debut.
