Game Notes:

John Hicks had himself a day at the plate. The minor leaguer, called up to take Miggy's spot on the roster, went 3-5 with 5 RBIs and a home run — his first Major League long ball. Overall the Tigers bats were alive and hungry this afternoon as the club had 13 hits in 39 at-bats, and put 13 runs on the board. Even, Jim Adduci, the newest addition to the roster was 3-4 today with a couple of RBIs.

Michael Fulmer was fantastic this afternoon, tossing seven innings of 2-run baseball, he had seven strikeouts and only one walk. It was nice to see that last stat, as Tigers pitchers are tops in the league in walks. Pitching seven strong innings is just what the doctor ordered, too, for the Tigers and their overused bullpen recently. Those seven innings were the longest start for a Tiger pitcher this season.

Looking ahead:

The Tigers head home to Detroit for an off day tomorrow before welcoming the Seattle Mariners into town for a mid-week series. Jordan Zimmermann toes the rubber against “King” Felix Hernandez in game one.
