It has been a rough start for Dan Campbell as head coach of the Detroit Lions. Not only is Campbell’s team winless after five weeks of the 2021 season but two of the losses came on last-second field goals.
But we knew it was going to be a rough season. Not only did the Lions have one of the worst rosters in the NFL heading into the season but they have had a plethora of injuries to key players such as Frank Ragnow, Taylor Decker, Jeff Okudah, Romeo Okwara, and Tyrell Williams, just to name a handful.
Despite the rough start, there is still reason to have hope that the future is bright with the Lions as Campbell has already done a great job changing what had become a toxic culture.
One person who agrees that Campbell will get the job done is future Hall of Fame QB Drew Brees, who spent time with Campbell in New Orleans.
Following the Lions’ last-second loss to the Vikings in Week 5, Brees texted Campbell to tell him that they are close.
“I got a lot of respect for Drew,” Campbell said Wednesday. “I probably wouldn’t be standing up here had it not been for Drew Brees as the quarterback where I came from. That’s the reality of it.”
“Shoot, he shot a text to me just talking about how impressive it was. It was like, ‘My god, man. Those guys are fighting. Those guys are not giving up. They’re fighting. You guys are close.'”
Nation, how many games do you think the Lions will win in 2021? Do you still believe in Dan Campbell?
I do.
