Future teammates Martin Lapointe and Brendan Shanahan brawl at Joe Louis Arena (VIDEO)

Brendan Shanahan was a major part of the Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup winning squads of 1997, 1998 and 2002. During his time in the Motor City spanning nine years, he scored hundreds of goals, dropped the gloves plenty of times, and doled out some huge hits – one of the iconic power forwards in League history.

But before he came to Detroit, he was lightning things up with the St. Louis Blues after his first career stop with the New Jersey Devils. And as irony would have it, he dropped the gloves at Joe Louis Arena against his future teammate Martin Lapointe on February 25, 1995:

Of course, Shanahan would be acquired by the Red Wings from the Hartford Whalers shortly into the 1996-97 season, and the rest was history.
