Game of the Day: Detroit Tigers shut out Royals to advance to 1984 World Series (VIDEO)

A 1-0 shutout swept the Royals!

Since the Detroit Tigers are the talk of the town with their drafting of Arizona State phenom Spencer Torkelson, it's only fitting that they're featured in our Game of the Day!

We're throwing it back to the legendary 1984 season, and the clinching game of the American League Championship Series at Tiger Stadium. Detroit advanced with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Kansas City Royals, dispatching them in a sweep. It was Detroit's first pennant in 16 years, and the ninth in team history.

Detroit's Milt Wilcox struck out eight Royals batters while giving up just two hits. Marty Castillo‘s 2nd inning groundout to drove in Chet Lemon for game's only run.
