It’s Detroit Red Wings legend Steve Yzerman‘s birthday, so our Game of the Day series will continue with a matchup from the 2002 Stanley Cup Playoffs that also happened to be – of course – Yzerman’s birthday!
The Red Wings were still smarting after a 6-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 of the Western Conference Semi Finals, cutting their series lead to 2-1. Game 4 didn’t start much better, as the Red Wings found themselves in penalty trouble early and down 1-0 thanks to a Scott Young PP goal.
But momentum shifted once Brendan Shanahan tied the score on a nifty feed from Darren McCarty, and it was all Red Wings the rest of the way sans a few tense minutes near the end of the contest.
