Game Notes:

Before J.D. Martinez made his season debut against the Angels a week ago, all Tiger fans hoped he would be the spark plug that got the season headed in the right direction. Fans always hope the injured player returns and carries the team to victories night in and night out. It’s always part of the sense of false realty that make diehard fans just that, diehard fans. But few times does that player come back and actually fulfill those hopes and desires right away. Except right now!

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you Mr. J.D. Martinez! The right-hander hit ANOTHER three-run home run to tie today’s game at 3-3 in the 3rd, and after the Orioles took a 4-3 lead in the 5th, J.D.’s brother (the friend/teammate kind, not blood-related) Victor Martinez, hit a two-run bomb to take back the lead for the Tigers. Avila added a RBI-double and that’s all she wrote in this one, as the Tigers took the series and carry all the momentum into the weekend series with Texas.

Looking Ahead:

After a hard-fought, clutch series win against the Orioles, the Tigers welcome Texas to town beginning tomorrow, May 19, at Comerica Park. The two teams will play a three-game series concluding Sunday night. Tomorrow’s game begins at 7:10 PM EST and Saturday’s match-up between #MustSeeJV and A.J. Griffin is set for 7:15 PM EST.

Sunday’s series finale will be on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN, and begins at 8:00 PM EST. Sunday’s match-up put the Tigers’ Matthew Boyd against Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers.
