Hot wings are usually a good thing, but not tonight. The Red Wings and their 20,000 fans at Joe Louis Arena are steaming tonight after a blown call cost the Wings a possible extra point in the standings tonight as the Columbus Blue Jackets walk away with a 3-2 win in overtime.
In the extra session, Detroit captain Henrik Zetterberg was skating through the neutral zone when he had his stick slashed in half by a Columbus player. No call was made, and the Blue Jackets snatched the puck and Seth Jones fired a rocket passed Petr Mrazek to end the game. Boos rained down from the crowd as that’s an automatic penalty in the NHL.
Instead of being on the power play in overtime, the Wings settled for a loss. Crushing blow to a team in need of every point possible. We’ll see if we hear anything from the NHL, but I doubt it.
Zetterberg said he was told it wasn't a penalty by officials
