What: Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards
When: Verizon Center Washington D.C., MD
Time: 1:00

The Detroit Pistons continue their preseason schedule against the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center. It’s the 3rd game of 8 on the preseason schedule for the Pistons and as usual, I have three things to look out for in this game.

1.) The shooting guard battle

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been terrific in these first two preseason games. He scored 18 against the Bulls and then followed that up with 20 against the Bucks on just nine shots. This is the reason why the Pistons drafted KCP over Trey Burke last season. They needed to fix that shooting guard spot, it’s been a problem since Rip Hamilton was coming off screens and shooting the lights out of gyms. This spot is Caldwell-Pope’s to lose, especially with Jodie Meeks having back spasms, and he needs to run with it.

2.) Brandon Jennings‘ play
Jennings only has one, ONE!, turnover in 52 minutes of play this preseason. New Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy has put him through the Van Gundy point guard camp and so far, Jennings has responded. If Jennings can keep this up, and just improve his shot selection just a little bit, then the Pistons will be an improved team. Jennings is the key to what this team wants to do.

3.) The power forward battle

The first game against Chicago, the starting combination was Josh Smith and Andre Drummond. Against the Bucks, it was Smith and Greg Monroe. My guess is this game it’ll be Monroe and Drummond. Van Gundy wants to see all the combinations before he makes a decision on who starts down low on the 29th against the Denver Nuggets. Keep and eye on the combinations of these three big men going forward.
