Getting to know new Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams

The Detroit Lions had originally been scheduled to wrap up Day 1 of tonight’s NFL Draft with the last selection of the night at spot No. 32, but general manager Brad Holmes had other ideas.

He swung a massive deal with the Minnesota Vikings, trading the 32nd, 34th, and 66th overall selections in exchange for No. 12 and No. 46. And they used the 12th pick to take wide receiver Jameson Williams from the University of Alabama:

Of course, fans in the Mitten State will recognize his name, as he began his collegiate career with the Ohio State Buckeyes before making the decision to transfer down south.

While with Alabama last season, Williams hauled in 79 passes for 1,572 total yards along with 15 touchdowns. Of course, he’s still rehabilitating his torn ACL that he suffered in the national title game against the Georgia Bulldogs.

The St. Louis, MO native was born on March 26, 2001 and would go on to attend Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School. He would finish his senior year with 68 receptions for 1,626 yards and 22 touchdowns and would be rewarded for his efforts by being named an Under Armour All-American.

In his three college seasons, he hauled in 94 passes for a total of 1,838 yards and 18 touchdowns. Oh, and he’s got a set of wheels too, being clocked at an astounding 23 MPH during practice:

10 Rookies who can make an immediate fantasy football splash

I’m not sure about you, but all the talk I hear about this draft is that there’s no “star power.”

Sure, last year’s NFL Draft had five first-round quarterbacks, but the five combined for exactly zero playoff wins and zero division titles. We love big-name rookie quarterbacks on draft night, but they’re rarely the first-year players who impact winning.

If you’re a fantasy football fan, you should hold this opinion — this draft is absolutely stellar. Several impact college position players will transition to the NFL, and some are coming off absurd, do-it-all efforts on college teams that weren’t very good overall.
