The Detroit Lions are entering the stretch run of the season, and Wednesday brought a pair of notable updates along the offensive line, one focused on the present, and the other very much about the future.
Head coach Dan Campbell spoke with reporters after the team’s walkthrough practice and offered insight on both Giovanni Manu and Christian Mahogany as Detroit prepares to host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16.

Christian Mahogany Could Be Trending Toward a Return
There’s some cautious optimism surrounding Christian Mahogany, who has been sidelined but may have a chance to suit up this weekend.
Campbell made it clear the Lions are hopeful, but not reckless, when it comes to Mahogany’s return.
“We’re hopeful,” Campbell said. “We’ll know a lot more tomorrow… full speed tomorrow and Friday, he’ll go through, and then we’ll see if he can go.”

The key factor will be how Mahogany responds during two full-speed practices. Last week, the staff felt encouraged but ultimately decided he wasn’t ready to return. That same cautious approach remains in place.
In the meantime, Detroit has leaned on a rotation featuring Trystan Colon and Miles Frazier to keep things steady up front.
Giovanni Manu’s Practice Clock Is About the Bigger Picture
While Mahogany’s situation is about Week 16 availability, Giovanni Manu is more about what comes next.
Campbell explained that Manu, who has missed significant time due to injury, needs real, competitive practice reps — especially against Detroit’s top defenders.
“He needs reps, practice reps,” Campbell said. “Get out there against our defense, against Marcus Davenport and Aidan Hutchinson… real time practice.”
Campbell was transparent: if Manu can help this season, that’s a bonus. The real goal is setting him up to be better prepared heading into training camp next year.
“It’s really about getting him set up better for next year,” Campbell added.
The Big Picture for Detroit’s Offensive Line
As the Lions gear up for a crucial home game, the offensive line remains a mix of short-term adjustments and long-term development. Mahogany’s potential return could stabilize things immediately, while Manu’s practice clock represents an investment in the future.
Either way, Detroit isn’t panicking, and that’s been the theme all season.
No blinking. Just moving forward.
