Glover Quin has interesting message for Detroit Lions’ fans

Let’s face it, the Detroit Lions are not making the NFL Playoffs this season. At 3-6, with a difficult schedule ahead of them, the bigger question is how high of a pick will they have when the 2019 NFL Draft rolls around?

But don’t tell that to Lions safety, Glover Quin.

Quin is not yet ready to give up on the Lions playoff hopes and he said as much to the media following Thursday’s practice.

From Detroit Free Press:

“We had that situation come up a couple years ago and we were 1-3, came home, won three in a row, we ended up getting to 4-3 and made the playoffs that year,” Quin said. “So anything can happen, we just got to go out and do it.”

According to Football Outsiders, the Lions currently have a  0.6% chance of making the playoffs and a 0.2% chance of winning the NFC North. Quin realizes the deck is stacked against the Lions but he does not believe the fat lady has sung quite yet.

“I’m not saying it’s not daunting,” Quin said. “I’m not saying it’s easy, but I’m just saying, I’m pretty sure any other team that’s in the situation we’re in will take three home games in a row, Arizona-Buffalo on the road, Minnesota back at home and then a close at Green Bay.”

What Quin failed to mention in that quote is that the Lions three home games coming up are against the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, and the Los Angeles Rams. Those three teams currently have a combined record of 21-7, so the Lions definitely will have their work cut out for them if they want to go on a winning streak before playing on the road against the Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals.

The schedule is daunting, but we commend Quin for having a “never-say-die” mentality.

We’re not in New England anymore; Can Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia find the yellow brick road?

Ever since becoming a Detroit Lions fan all the way back in 1985, I’ve always been an optimist heading into each and every season. Now, don’t get me wrong, though optimistic, I have also been realistic at the same time. There have been many seasons where my football knowledge told me the Lions roster or coaching staff was not good enough to compete, but I always had HOPE. Hope that the team I have supported for so long would finally break through.

That has been no different this season.

Heading into the 2018 campaign, I had hope that new head coach Matt Patricia would light a fire under the asses of the organization and lead the team to their first playoff victory since the 1991 season. Unfortunately, my brain told me that general manager Bob Quinn had not given Patricia a formidable roster to work with and nine games into the season, the Lions are sitting at 3-6.
