Golden Tate says a contract extension for Matthew Stafford is ‘well deserved’

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford insists that he isn’t thinking about a potential contract extension that would make him the highest paid player at his position in the NFL.

However, several people are thinking about it. One such person is one of his favorite targets, wide receiver Golden Tate. What would he say to Stafford if he were to get such an extension?

“Well deserved, my friend. You’ve done everything you possibly can,” Tate said.

“I think he’s done more than his part,” Tate also added. “He’s been in the community, he’s been a voice for the city, he’s helped us win a bunch of ball games. He’s been here through the highs, the lows, he’s gained everyone’s trust.”

“Athletically, he’s still going up. I think he’s like a fine wine. He gets better with age. I think he deserves it, no doubt. I think he puts in the work every single day. We just gotta help him out, we gotta help him out. So I hope he does.”

Stafford finished the season with 24 touchdown passes, ten interceptions, and a passer rating of 93.3. It is also worth mentioning that half of those ten picks came in the final four games of the regular season following a injury to his throwing hand against Chicago. The slowdown effectively halted what was looking like an MVP-type season for Stafford. He currently makes $17.6 million per year, which put him 19th among all NFL QBs this season. The highest-paid quarterback in the league is Colts signal caller Andrew Luck with an annual salary of $24 million.

What do you think? Does Stafford deserve to eclipse that mark?
