The hope is that we will eventually see fans in the stands for a Detroit Lions game at Ford Field at some point this season but it will not be because Gov. Gretchen Whitmer makes an exception.

Whitmer's latest COVID-related orders allow movie theaters and bowling alleys to open but it also continues to prohibit gatherings of more than 500 people.
On Monday, Whitmer said that she will not make an exception for the Detroit Lions when it comes to the 500 people rule.
“We’re not going to make a special exception for professional football,” Whitmer told MLive in a wide-ranging interview. “We have to continue to be smart, and I know there are some who would like to get in person to the Lions game. I’m just glad that you can still partake and support the team by watching them on television.”
“I, more than anybody, want to see packed stadiums,” Whitmer said. “That will be a sign of when we are really done with COVID-19, and I am looking forward to that as much as anybody, and everyone knows I love football. So, when it’s safe, when the testing gets to that point where we can do lots of fast tests and know that we’re having no COVID-positive people in a stadium, perhaps that’s a way that we can start that up again. Perhaps, you know, widespread use of a vaccine. I think that there are a lot of things that are in the works that can give us the ability to get there. We’re just not there yet.”
