If you think you are having a bad week or so, just ask Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher how he is doing. A week ago, Maher missed four extra points in a row during the Cowboys' Wild Card Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Following that game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it very clear that Maher was not going anywhere and that he would be the team's kicker for the Divisional Round matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Well, so far, that has proven to be the wrong move and the Governor of Texas has chimed in.
Texas Governor rips Cowboys' kicker Brett Maher
After scoring a touchdown during Sunday's game against the 49ers, the Cowboys ran Maher out to kick the extra point, and it was blocked. After watching the replay, it was apparent that even if the kick was not blocked, it was going to sail wide-left by a wide margin.
Following the kick, Greg Abbott, who is the Governor of Texas, took to Twitter to throw some shade toward Maher.
“I swear, I can kick as good as the Dallas Cowboys kicker,” Abbott tweeted.
Why it Matters
- As it stands, following a short field goal by Maher, the Cowboys are tied 9-9 with the 49ers.
- If Maher connected on his extra point earlier in the game, the Cowboys would have a 10-9 lead.
Challenge for Governer Abbott
So, Governor Abbott, if you were big enough to hop on Twitter and claim that you can kick as good as Maher can, how about you be big enough to back up your comment?
We challenge you to take a little trip to Jerry World this coming week to have a little extra point-kicking competition against Maher. 10 extra points. Whoever loses has to donate $100,000 to a charity of the winner's choice. Are you in?
